Quick Writes Term 4

We have been working on ‘Quick Writes.’  This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10 minutes to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.

For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.

1) tomato festival

Tomato Fight

In the annual tomato festival in the Mediterranean village of Bunol people are fighting with tomatoes. Bunol is a place near Valencia which is in Spain. While they're fighting with the tomatoes they are standing on tomato pulp. The people who are fighting with the tomatoes are wearing goggles to protect their eyes and they are covered in the sticky tomatoes. People will probably fall over into the pulp and get more covered in tomatoes.

A Stormy Day

One day we had a paroro (storm) and it was crazy. The wind was like a tornado sucking up a house while I was down stairs and watching the tv. We then heard a bang so I went to the wini (window) and saw some lightning.

Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper

IMG_1185.JPG

For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’  This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.

For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.

The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.

When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.

Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.

When we are writing we need to think about…
1) What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write

The Bee Keeper

On a spring day the bee keeper went to the bee nest to collect the honey. The bees tried to sting the bee keeper like a wave of stingers. The bees were buzzing.

Robot Rampage

This term we have been doing Robot Rampage story writing. Here is my work.

Every weekend there was one job that Robert hated doing: testing the guns. He’d much rather be building his latest keretao (robot) invention in the shed. That was it! What if Robert could build a keretao (robot) to test the guns?

Robert’s dad owns a robot factory which builds robots and guns. Robert’s job is to test the guns that his dad makes.  Robert is sick of doing this job repeatedly so he is going to make a robot to do the job for him.

Robert went to his Dad's factory and asked his dad if he had some spare parts. “I do have some parts you can use son”, said Roberts Dad so Robert went to gather some parts to build a keretao (robot). Then  he got some ammo for the keretao (robot) to use. Once he had finished building his keretao (robot) he put it in the shooting range.

The keretao (robot) was as fast as a formula 1 racing car. For a week Robert’s robot did its job of testing the guns really well.  However a week later, when it was doing its job it malfunctioned and used up all the amo. Robert realised that his robot was using up all the amo so he needed to get rid of it or else the guns wouldn’t be able to be tested properly.

Suddenly Robert had a idea. If he built some robots to destroy his first keretao (robot) then he could get the new robots to test the guns. When he finished building his new keretao (robots) he sent them to destroy the old keretao (robot). Once the new keretao (robots) had destroyed the old robot they did the old keretao’s (robot’s)  job and Robert made sure the new keretao (robots) did their job properly for a week.

After he made sure they did it properly Robert got to sit back and relax and play video games all day!   He never had to do his job again.

Persuasive Writing - Why we should fix our field

We have been having a go at writing a piece of persuasive writing. here is my piece of writing about why we should fix our field.

Title
A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’

Fix The Papa Tākaro (field)

Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic.  What you believe or want to argue.
I strongly believe that we need to fix our field. We need to fix the field because if we don’t fix their will be more accidents with people.

Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic.  Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.

Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples

Firstly, if we don’t fix our field there will be more accidents around people. More people will be hurt because we are quite crowded.

Secondly, if we don’t fix the field we will have less room to play and we don’t have room train. Without the field we won't get as fit as with the field.

Thirdly, without the field their will not be a gala.  Without the gala we won’t have enough money to pay for shows or busses.

Finally, with no field we won't get to train for events  like cross country and tournaments.

Concluding statement
Summing it up.  A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.

In conclusion we need to fix our field because with no field we won't get to train for events, without the field their will not be a gala, if we don’t fix the field we will have less room to play and we don’t have room train, if we don’t fix our field there will be more accidents around people. It is very important to fix our field now!
